North Devon weekend

jun 6, 2017

Whilst visiting the girlfriend's home county of North Devon, we had another visit to one of my favourite places in Devon, Watersmeet. The walk begins with views of beautiful waterfalls at the confluence of the East Lyn River and the Hoar Oak Water, and the walk down the South West Coast Path into Lynmouth gives spectacular views along the coast and across to Wales.

Edinburgh weekend

feb 21, 2017

A very boozy weekend away with the girlfriend in Edinburgh, Scotland's compact, hilly capital. The city has a medieval Old Town and elegant Georgian New Town with gardens and neoclassical buildings. Looming over the city is Edinburgh Castle, home to Scotland’s crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny, used in the coronation of Scottish rulers. Arthur’s Seat is an imposing peak in Holyrood Park with sweeping views, and Calton Hill is topped with monuments and memorials.

Testing my new camera

jan 18, 2017

I recently purchased a new camera in the Nikon D750. After leaving fulltime service as a photographer in the Royal Navy, where we used the latest Nikon DSLR's, I moved onto the smaller Fuji X-Series equipment. Upon leaving I got myself a Fuji X-Pro 1, and X-T1 kit. As much as this lightweight and amazing set of cameras were perfect for what I needed, I missed the all-round quality of Nikon. I eventually saved up and traded in my Fuji hoard for the amazing Nikon D750. This camera had so many great reviews, and came personally recommended to me.

So last week I took my new toy over to see my family on the Isle of Wight, and I couldn't have been any more impressed with what I had purchased. I cannot wait for the year ahead.

One of my first images which I took during a beautiful sunset at Freshwater Bay.

Tower Bridge .gif

My initial plan for the images I had taken, was to convert them into a HDR. But instead I thought I would take this opportunity to attempt my very first .gif file. A series of images set into a timeline which produces a moving image. And an attempt I am very happy with.

Laura & James

sept 12, 2016

The wedding of my amazing friend James and his beautiful wife Laura. I met James in 2009 when we were placed on the same tri-service photography course up at RAF Cosford. We hit it off immediately and have been close friends ever since.

Even though I turned down the chance to be the official photographer for the day, which meant I could consume copious amounts of alcohol without feeling guilty, it was still an absolute pleasure to snap away for the day whilst I could still hold a camera. The wedding was set within 142 acres of Cornish countryside. Trevenna is a gorgeous cluster of elegant barns creating a unique barn wedding venue right in the heart of Cornwall.

Cowes Ale House

Cowes Ale House is a traditional drinking establishment where people can come and socialise. Opened in March 2013 and sister to the popular Newport Ale House, they serve up to five real ales direct from the barrel which are always changing and fine lagers, wines and spirits.

Kelly Hole modelling shoot

may 18-19, 2016

A beautiful few days out with my friend Kelly, where we travelled to Newtown Creek and took some stunning shots. I had recently purchased a new camera, the Fuji X-Pro 1, and this is one of the first times I had a chance to use it. I have an X-T1 on order too so will have to arrange another shoot soon.

The photo shoot had been in the pipeline for years, ever since I first started taking photos professionally with the Royal Navy. And nearly 8 years on we finally got round to arranging it. It was well worth the wait, and I hope Kelly agrees.

Below is a small selection from the two days.
